About this video

Can your CRE system handle every cycle?

In this video, Rick Trepp, Founder and CEO of Rockport, explains why comprehensive coverage matters in commercial real estate. From loan origination and property acquisition in strong markets, to workouts and risk management in downturns, Rockport’s platform is built to handle every cycle.

Unlike smaller systems that only serve one piece of the process, Rockport integrates origination, asset management, servicing, and accounting, so institutions can trust their data, confirm third-party work, and maintain clarity across portfolios.

The smaller systems tend to do parts of it, but not all of it. Rockport has been designed to go across the entire coverage. Rockport has spent a lot of years and made major investment in being able to handle all property types, to be able to handle each of the different levels, whether you're buying bonds or whether you're buying loans or you've got property exposure. The smaller systems tend to do a part of that. And then if you look at it, there's really two major components, which is the origination of loans or acquisition of properties, and then there is the asset management of them.

It was part of our game plan to be a robust, substantial platform. And, if you've made those loans, you either must hire outside servicing or do your own servicing. And even if you hire an outside servicer, you want a phantom service what they're doing to make sure that it stays. So, we developed a servicing system and an accounting system. So, we both service the loans and account for them. And if you're not doing the servicing or the accounting directly to confirm and verify what's being done for you by a third-party servicer.

In, you know, strong economic times, you originate a lot of loans. And in bad times, you have loans to work out or properties to sell. It's all part of your asset management, risk management. So that, in good times, Rockport's summarization platform is very actively used. In good times and bad times, you must have asset manage those loans so that, in fact, the business increases at bad times. Firms used to come to us and say, could you tell us what we hold?

Our objective in Rockport has been to put at your fingertips your data to what you have. And then finally, with Rockport accounting and servicing, you must do those in both environments. We do not have a significant change in level or business of cash flow in any of the environments.
