Conduit lenders face a tough choice: speed vs. accuracy, flexibility vs. control. But what if you didn’t have to choose?
In this video, William Trepp, Co-Founder and COO at Rockport, shares how his years working directly in securitization and his deep understanding of Excel-based workflows inspired the creation of a CRE platform built to solve the right problems. You’ll learn why Rockport was built specifically for lenders dealing with complex, fast-moving deals, and how it bridges the gap between usability and clean, centralized data.
Whether you're still rekeying data or managing scattered spreadsheets, this conversation offers a practical path forward.
If you’re a conduit lender, this is the kind of system insight you can’t afford to miss. Learn what your workflow could look like: https://www.therockportgroup.com/solutions/debt-solutions/debt-solutions-for-conduit-lenders
If you're a conduit lender, you should really be using Rockport because we built Rockport from day one to be optimized for you. It's funny. We've been really doing securitization since day one. I actually sort of grew up with it around the dinner table, so it's been in our blood from the very beginning. I worked on the securitization desk before I actually ended up coming to Rockport and realizing that there was a much better way to do securitization work. I quit my job doing securitization and came to Rockport, and we've been doing it ever since.
Well, having been in it for so long, we really know a lot about it and where the pain points are and how we can minimize those pain points, whether it be through integration with Excel to help doing accounting tapes or allowing you to run your strat reports in more efficient ways. And when that's integrated together, it flows really well, and you can automate a ton of the manual work, but also still get the speed to market that you need. Well, we take a different approach than some others where we don't try to rip Excel away from the organization.
Early on, we realized that we had to merge with Excel so that Excel could essentially be part of the user interface for the system, so we did the hard work of figuring out how to do that. I think very few people have done so because frankly it's just a lot of work. We embrace it as opposed to a lot of people who sort of push back on it or say you can't have it. Instead, what we've done over the last twenty years is build a suite of Excel tools that allow you to keep your models, or we also have some that, we've built that are used twenty, thirty thousand times a year by people to underwrite loans.
But if you have your own models that you prefer, we let you keep those, and we've built a proprietary add in for Excel that lets us integrate your Excel with our centralized system. Analysts love Rockport because you enter something once, then you report on it a thousand times as opposed to the norm right now that's much more of you enter data a lot of times to report on it a lot of times. We let you stay in Excel. It's where you do your best work, and we let you do that.
Keep the mileage you have or use ours, but do so in a safe, secure manner where then the data gets automatically centralized. No retyping of your data when you finish your underwriting. Biggest problem management teams run into is users, whether they be originators or underwriters or analysts or anything, tend to not get data back centralized. We change that by making it super easy and by not making you retype data. As a result, your data is always clean and timely, which is super important in management, as I know from running a company myself.
Ultimately, for securitization, you want to centralize data so that then you can build strat reports, you can build accounting tapes, you can get everything comforted and do everything you need to do to get a deal done efficiently. Makes it a lot easier than recopying and pasting and like we did back in, you know, two thousand two when I was doing it.
